Breast Cancer Awareness and Engagement Walk – Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Nawabshah
Under the “Paint Your Life Pink Again” roadshow, a Breast Cancer Awareness and Engagement Session, followed by a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, was organized at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Nawabshah by the Ishrat Husain Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning (PILL) Nawabshah team on 30th October 2025.
The event was attended by over 110 students and more than 40 teachers. The session aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of mental health support for survivors.
Ms. Tanzeela Sardar and Ms. Aasia Sain Bux shared an overview of PILL’s ongoing work, its mental health research, and details of the NIHR-funded project “Moving on After Breast Cancer Plus” (NIHR205561). They also highlighted the Defeat Cancer Campaign, which seeks to reach millions across Pakistan with messages on cancer prevention, early screening, and psychosocial support.
Dr. Arfa Badr delivered an informative talk on breast cancer risk factors, warning signs, diagnosis, and the importance of early screening and timely treatment. An interactive question-and-answer session followed, during which students actively participated and engaged in meaningful discussion.
As a gesture of appreciation, Ms. Aasia presented a Shield of Appreciation to the school administration. The School Principal acknowledged PILL’s continuous efforts in promoting health awareness and appreciated the team’s contribution to community well-being.
Following the session, participants joined the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, demonstrating their solidarity with breast cancer survivors and their commitment to spreading awareness within their community.
At the conclusion of the event, five participants provided consent to contact for potential recruitment under the “Moving on After Breast Cancer (Moving on ABC)” project, marking a positive outcome of community engagement and interest in health research participation.
