Research Assessor

Job Summary:

The research assessor (RA) will be responsible for field-based data collection. RA will gather accurate, high quality and reliable data to support the research projects aims and objectives. Data collection will include conducting surveys, interviews with study participants within the community and health care settings, undertake field observations in accordance with ethical and scientific standards. The RA will report directly to the Project Manager of the research programme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative assessments including structured interviews, surveys, and focus groups in field settings.
  • Assist in drafting research protocols, SOPs, informed consents etc. and ensure the informed consent and ethical data collection practices.
  • Record and organize data using paper forms or digital tools (e.g., tablets, mobile apps)
  • Maintain confidentiality and data integrity throughout the process.
  • Report challenges and field observations to supervisors and help in preparing research manuscripts, reports, and presentations, etc.
  • Assist in translating, adapting, pre-testing, and piloting of data collection instruments
  • Coordinate with field supervisors and community stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing materials related to the project (e.g., Intervention materials, meeting agendas and minutes, etc.).
  • Support the Data management teams in data Checking (for consistencies, quality checking for errors in entry, etc.) and maintaining research databases (ODK, Google forms, data record sheets, transcriptions, Record keeping, and maintaining data in the form of audio files, hard and scanned copies of the data, etc.).
  • Attend trainings and supervision meetings with national and international teams.
  • Any other task assigned by the line manager/Project Manager, or PI.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BS/MS degree in Social Sciences or related fields.
  • Two or more years of experience in data collection with a community-based international collaborative global mental health research programme.
  • Experience of using complex clinical and performance assessment tools within community settings, eg, Wechsler Intelligence Scale, Bayley’s Scale of Development, Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-V, etc.
  • Experience of using electronic case report forms (eCRFs) and experience of data collection on digital survey tools (e.g., ODK, QUALTRIX, etc.).
  • Experience of working on internationally funded longitudinal research programmes.
  • Experience of using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
  • Certificate GCP training.

Required & desired skills:

  • Ability and resilience of working in testing field conditions for data collection.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both for interacting with the project staff and with research participants and their families).
  • Ability to follow research and field SoPs, eg, while consenting and collecting data from participants.
  • Experience and proficiency in using smartphones and Tablets to collect data in the field and household settings of participants.
  • Excellent engagement skills, especially pertaining to children and adolescents.
  • Having attention to detail when recording responses on eCRFs.
  • Being respectful and professional in their conduct, behaviour both within the team and within the community settings.
  • Experience of applying principles of research integrity and protection of research participants.
