About Us

The Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning Institutional Review Board (PILL IRB) is dedicated to upholding ethical standards and safeguarding the well-being and rights of human participants in research. As part of its commitment to ethical standards in research and practice, PILL has set up the Governance and Ethics Learning Hub. The IRB at PILL is now being operationalised as a subsidiary of PILL-GELH.

The objectives of PILL IRB are rooted in key ethical principles outlined in influential documents such as the Belmont Report, which provides guidelines for the protection of human participants and the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Guidelines, ensuring rigorous standards in clinical research. Additionally, PILL IRB draws insights from historical perspectives, incorporating the Nuremberg Code’s directives for human experimentation.

Moreover, as PILL is based in Pakistan, IRB will consider the local regulations for the conduct of clinical trials and adhere to the research ethics guidance provided by the National Bioethics Committee (NBC). IRB will also remain sensitive to the collaborative organisational / institutional ethics committees in the joint projects undertaken by PILL. Based on human research ethical frameworks, PILL IRB ensures the ethical conduct of research activities and prioritises the protection and well-being of research participants.
