ECD Forum – Functionality Over Academia” organised in Karachi University

🌼 ECD Forum – Special Needs & Early Childhood Development At Karachi University Medical Center

An engaging ECD forum on “Functionality over Academics” was held on 3rd May 2026 at Karachi University Medical Center, where PILL is inaugurating a Research Excellence Program on Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Special Needs.

Dr. Shaista Ali Siddiqui attended as an expert panelist and facilitated the discussion.

The session included representation from Umeedgah, Panahgah, Special Needs Education Program, Special Olympics, KDSB, and PILL.

With 20+ participants, including parents, caregivers, and individuals with special needs and neurodevelopmental conditions, the forum created a safe and honest space for dialogue.

Key discussions emphasized the importance of early childhood development, positive responsive parenting, and the need for trained special educators in schools.

Parents and caregivers shared the emotional toll, societal pressure, and stigma they face — often more challenging than managing the child’s needs themselves. Individuals with special needs highlighted discrimination, lack of opportunities, and limited inclusion in education, careers, and social life.

💡 A key takeaway:
There is a strong need for structured support systems and tailored care pathways that respond to each family’s unique social and financial realities.

“Every child deserves dignity, independence, and inclusion.
